What does it take to qualify to be a member of the National Junior Honor Society?

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a secondary student. The NJHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and community. Chapters in more that 5,000 secondary schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s goals of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.

These five ideals have been considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are:

Scholarship: over a 90% cumulative average at the end of the school year.

Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship-as demonstrated by activities and teacher recommendations.

Membership, however, is more than an honor. It carries with it more than certain privileges. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in the student's selection.
